Hello, and WELCOME to the Sandy Hook Community Club Print Sale Fundraiser page!
Here you will find a selection of fine quality print reproductions in various sizes created by local artist Talia Keyton.
Many of you might know Talia from previous years as the “Paint Lady” hosting Sandy Hook’s annual PaintNite Fundraiser at the Community centre (2017,2018 & 2019). As you know, challenges brought to us by the arrival of COVID-19 last year have made gathering together in name of fundraising rather difficult. We’ve had to get creative instead.
In order to help support the Community Centre through this difficult time, Talia’s has partnered with us to bring you a collection of Fine Art Prints FOR SALE - with up to 50% of the proceeds going straight to The Sandy Hook CC.
Mid-August of this year Talia came to paint our famous Sandy Hook Pier, capturing the beauty from an 11th Avenue perspective, facing south towards 10th avenue. The painting is titled “The Beloved Pier” and includes the spectacular view of Sandy Hook Beach, the lush, green Tree-line framing it, the gentle, inviting waves of lake Winnipeg and of course the beloved Pier itself.
As well as the Pier, Talia will be offering prints of favourites from her series: “Plein air Manitoba” which include scenes of: Gimli Harbour, Assiniboine park, St Norbert Monestary, and Whiteshell, Mb - to name a few. We sincerely hope you enjoy browsing Talia’s artwork, and selecting the prints that speak to you (they make great Holiday gifts as well!).
We thank you kindly for choosing to support local! If you have any questions about purchases, pickup, or delivery please don’t hesitate to contact either: Kathy Erickson (kat_amazing1991@hotmail.co.uk) or Talia Keyton (taliak92@gmail.com)
HAPPY SHOPPING!

Here you'll find a collection of Talia's recent works in watercolour and Ink. Focused on natural topics, the artist's soft watercolour technique punctuated with the drama of ink line work evokes the sentiment of playful observation, in a harmony of colours and textures. This particular body of work probes the aesthetics of early twentieth-century zoological illustrations, featuring an arc of beautiful creatures from the exotic and fantastical to the commonplace.
With her personal works in Acrylic and Oil, Talia aims to create a whimsical world of ideals - a combined reflection of her surroundings, with the way she thinks they ought to be. Influenced heavily by nature - Expression of life in general, and all the different ways that life can manifest; in endless possibilities of colours, sounds and shapes will never cease to inspire her.
A large body of her work is also based on how she sees the world through “Color-graphemic synesthesia” – a neurological phenomenon in which written words, individual letters and numbers are all inherently coloured. Her synesthetic pieces all start with an individual word and a desire to capture the associated colours and sensations she experiences in their purest form.
Away from the madness of society, one is free to observe nature’s lessons.
Violent erosion. Gnarled roots. Grey rock, cracked, shattered and worn. A fallen tree. An owls nest. The carcass of a dead deer. Birds, looping around in the open air. There is infinite meaning and endless value in every view, if only we become quiet and open enough to read the scripture of the landscape.
The inspirational pull to make time for this series hit me at the exact same time that COVID 19 reared its ugly head in Canada. As everything began to shut down and with an increased (and potentially unjustified) demand for distance, I decided to break free from the four walls of my studio and experience the act of painting 'En Plein air” - in the open air. I was alone, out in nature with nobody to bother me but the birds and the occasional passerby offering lighthearted sentiment or encouragement from afar. We have the kindest of strangers in this province.
The time to myself was a real blessing. It’s amazing how clear things become when you retreat into yourself. Painting from life is an extraction of time; a capturing of the essence of existence during a specific moment in an experience. All created since March, 2020, my En Plein Air paintings seek to explore the act of observation, and most especially how experiencing discomfort can affect both the act and the outcome of the creative process. My goal was to remain in greater equanimity with my surroundings as I attempted to place a bookmark in the current spirit, vitality and essential character of our local landscapes.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Hello! My name is Talia Keyton. Originally from the U.K. I moved to Canada in 2007 with my family in pursuit of a better life. Winding up in Winnipeg by accident, I fell in love with this city’s unique charm and the incredible people here. We put down roots and haven’t looked back since.
In my paintings I create a whimsical world of ideals; a combined reflection of my surroundings with the way I think they ought to be. I use intense colour, pattern repetition and textural change to portray emotion in my work. Spray paint, acrylic and resin, are the mediums I work with regularly. Their endless layering potential always seems to inspire experimentation which I find creates space for unique results.
Expression of life in general, and all the different ways that life can manifest; in endless possibilities of colours, sounds and shapes will never cease to inspire me. When I immerse myself in creating art about life I feel infinite and I have come to believe that in choosing to engage with this feeling, I am choosing all along the way to reveal more of my wholeness to myself.
